Water rushes over a section of the Trans-Canada Highway June 19. (Gary Hofer) The Saskatchewan government has issued cheques totalling $3,000 to nearly 950 flood victims in three communities.
The cheques are in response to flash flooding this summer in Saskatoon, Yorkton and Maple Creek.
Public Safety Minister Yogi Huyghebaert says the money is in advance of damage claims being settled.
He says those who suffered damages of greater than $3,000 will receive more assistance as claims are adjusted.
So far this year there have been close to 2,000 claims submitted to the provincial disaster assistance program.
