An elderly Regina man had to be rescued from fierce winds that knocked him to the ground Friday morning.

According to witnesses, the man — whose age is not known — was making his way down 11th Avenue using a walker.

Winds, which had been gusting to 100 kilometres per hour Friday morning, were especially strong in the area, which has many office towers.

People told CBC News that the man's light-weight walker was picked up by the wind. The man tried to hold on to it, but the walker was blown out of his hands.

The wind was so powerful it apparently flipped the man in the air before slamming him to the pavement, witnesses said.

Bystanders rushed to his aid and also retrieved his walker.

A witness told CBC News that the man was OK and was able to dust himself off and continue on his way.
