People who file for divorce, are late paying their speeding tickets or come from other provinces to camp will pay more to the Saskatchewan government this year.

The province announced Thursday it's boosting a variety of fees — and lowering or eliminating others — resulting in extra $1 million going into the government's coffers.

Under the changes, immigrants applying for permanent residency in the province as entrepreneurs will have to pay a $2,500 non-refundable application fee.

Starting immediately, camping permits for non-residents will go up by $4 a night for non-electrical sites and $6 a night for electrical sites.

On April 1, the fee for filing a petition for a divorce will double — to $200 from $100.

The same day, fees for late payment of traffic tickets goes up $10 to $50.

Meanwhile, game farm licence fees — currently as much as $200 for five years — are being eliminated.

In addition to the $1 million going to the province's general revenue fund, the changes will raise an extra $150,000 for a fund that covers parks, campgrounds and recreational facilities.

The fee and charge changes are "primarily" to cover costs, the provincial government said in a news release.
