The iconic Snowbirds aerobatic flying squadron will open their 40th season of tours with a performance at their home base just outside of Moose Jaw, Sask., on April 28, 2010.

After that, the team will take to the skies to participate in 33 air shows in 30 locations across North America.

It has dates as far north as Anchorage, Alaska, and as far south as Daytona Beach, Fla.

The planes used, Tutor Jets, used in the past as training aircraft, do not have sufficient range to tour beyond North America.

Their formal designation is CT-114. The planes have been in service since 1962 and were adopted for the demonstration team in 1971, the inaugural year of the Snowbirds.

The team, which also has shows booked in Victoria and Halifax next year, has performed in an estimated 2,195 shows since its inception.
