Two members of the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) stood with almost no clothes on a Regina street corner for 15 minutes Thursday, braving temperatures of –21 C.

The protest has come to be known by its slogan, "I'd rather go naked than wear fur."

"It has that shock and awe factor," protester Kristina Addington told CBC News, as her eyes watered up in the cold. "This is not something you see everyday and it makes people come over and talk to us."

Addington, along with Elise Mittag wore bunny ears and cotton tails, and undergarments. Beyond that, the only thing shielding them from total exposure were their signs.

The stunt attracted some men snapping pictures using cameras in their cellphones. Many motorists also honked their horns, showing some form of approval.

Passersby were also impressed.

"Actually I'm a bit proud of them," Paulette Riou told CBC News. "I think it's going to work for some. It's going to be a distraction for others. I don't think there's one method that will apply across the board."
