The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is calling for a public inquiry into the death of a young man who was shot by the RCMP.

Kenneth Chase Wilfred Standingready-McKay, 21, was shot during a confrontation with officers in June 2008.

A coroner's jury found that the man provoked the shooting and ruled that his death was a suicide, with alcohol as a contributing factor.

But the White Bear First Nation and McKay's family disagree.

Federation vice-chief Morley Watson says the coroner's inquest has raised more questions that need answers. He says those answers can only be obtained through a public inquiry.
