Opponents of the war in Iraq are planning a protest march and demonstration Wednesday morning in Saskatoon in advance of a noon-hour speaking engagement by former U.S. president George W. Bush.

Organizers have met with Saskatoon police to work out the route their march will take.

The plan, according to police, is for a march to begin at 10:45 a.m. from the Saskatoon Farmers Market Square.

The group will walk east along 19th Street as far as Second Avenue South. Once there, they will turn left and walk along Second Avenue North to 23rd Street East.

They'll make another left turn to walk along 23rd Street East to Pacific Avenue, where they will gather for their demonstration.

Police said they would help with traffic during the march, but only a portion of Pacific Avenue would be closed to vehicles.

While police were willing to release the route for protesters, they were not about to do the same for that of the former president.

Police said they would be providing support for an RCMP motorcade for Bush, but that route was not going to be disclosed for security reasons.

Bush was in Edmonton on Tuesday where his presence also attracted protests.

He is scheduled to speak in Saskatoon at noon at the downtown TCU Place.

The venue is about one block from where protesters will be allowed to set up.
