A man accused of trying to set himself on fire at a Saskatoon SGI office will spend the long weekend behind bars after appearing in court on several charges Friday.

Youssef Hajizadeh, 41, made his first appearance in Saskatoon provincial court Friday morning charged with uttering threats and attempting to set a fire in a public place.

Over the noon hour on Thursday, a man entered the Saskatchewan Government Insurance driver examination office in Saskatoon and doused himself with gasoline.

Police said the man was trying to ignite himself with a lighter but someone in the office intervened and stopped him.

No one was harmed in the incident.

Hajizadeh is due back in court on Tuesday.
