One of the young men involved in the home invasion killing of a Regina man in 2006 was sentenced Friday to five years in prison.

Jarvis Cote was 17 years old when he and four others burst into Douglas Anderson's home in November 2006. Anderson died on the floor after being shot in the stomach.

It was a case of mistaken identity. Court of Queen's Bench has heard the youths had gang connections and thought the people at Anderson's house were connected to another gang.

Cote did not pull the trigger, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter for his role in the death.

Cote, who is now 20, was sentenced as an adult, so his name can be made public. He received a sentence of nine years in prison, minus credit for time spent in custody awaiting court proceedings, resulting in a net sentence of five years.

Three other people have already been sentenced, including the man who fired the fatal shot.

That man, Jacob Worm, was sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility for parole for 14 years.

Denny Jimmy and Tyrone Worm were sentenced to 12 years in prison, but because of time served, there's eight years left in their sentences.
