A Regina man who was a manager at the local jail has been charged after child pornography was allegedly found on his home computer.

According to the Regina police, the investigation on Patrick Lawrence Francis, 57, started three years ago after printed pictures were found in a home in the city's south end.

Police wanted to know where the photos were printed and the investigation led them across town to the home of Francis, who worked as a manager at the Regina Correctional Centre.

Investigators spent 2½ years analyzing the computer and collecting evidence before Francis was charged with possession of child pornography, Regina police officials said.

Francis, who has been released, was in the news lately as a witness at the coroner's inquest into the death of Darren Philpott at the jail last fall.

Francis told the inquest he was on medical leave, according to the Regina Leader-Post.

Philpott had been facing a number of charges connected to child pornography when he was found in the shower room of the jail, hanging from a water pipe with a bedsheet tied around his neck. The coroner's jury ruled it was a suicide.

Francis was a manager at the Regina jail and was on duty the day Philpott hanged himself.

He must follow certain conditions, such as keeping away from schools and playgrounds. He's also not allowed to use any devices capable of accessing the internet.

He'll be back in court next month on July 8.
