The town of Melville is the latest in a series of Saskatchewan communities to get money to build a multipurpose recreation complex — $16 million to be exact.

The centre will include an ice surface, convention centre, family fitness centre, cardiac care centre, seniors centre and a walking track, the federal and provincial governments announced in a news release Friday.

On the weekend, there were announcements for so-called multiplex buildings in three other communities.

Moose Jaw found out it's getting $23.5 million toward its planned multiplex, which is to replace an aging civic centre.

North Battleford also got the official word Saturday on government money for its own big infrastructure project. The two levels of government will contribute $14 million toward a performance theatre that will be part of a new multiplex.

In Estevan, $10.2-million will go toward building the city's planned civic events centre. The multiplex will be used for hockey, curling, figure skating, lacrosse, gymnastics and other sports.

The money is flowing as part of the federal and provincial governments' stimulus programs designed to inject money into the economy to create jobs and boost the GDP.
