A preliminary examination of the body that police have now identified as missing Regina teenager Tara-Lyn Poorman has not revealed any obvious signs she died of violence.

Regina city police confirmed late Tuesday that the body found Friday in a backyard in the north side of the city was that of Poorman.

According to the coroner's report, a preliminary post-mortem examination revealed no indication of injury or foul play.

However, there will be further tests, including toxicology, before any determinations are made about the cause of death, the police said.

Poorman, 17, disappeared Dec. 12 after last being seen at a house party held about a block from where her body was discovered at 371 Osler St.

Her mother, Shellyn Kay, helped keep her daughter's name in the public eye for the four months she was missing, putting up posters and making appeals to the media.

She told CBC News Tuesday afternoon she had earlier learned that the body was that of her daughter. She said her heart was broken, but also expressed the hope that tests would show her daughter was not a victim of violence.

A funeral service is planned for later this week on Kawacatoose First Nation, near Wynyard, Sask.
