There was shock in Estevan, Sask., on Tuesday but no injuries when the roof partially collapsed at a local high school.
Officials said it's believed a truss collapsed from the weight of snow on a section of the roof at Estevan Comprehensive School.
Earlier in the day, there had been heavy snow in Estevan.
The section fell about 30 centimetres onto a load-bearing wall around 11:45 a.m. in the automotive shop area. Some sprinkler lines broke and there was water everywhere, but no one was hurt.
"I think everybody was certainly surprised and shocked," said Lionel Diederichs, the superintendent of finance and administration with the Southeast Cornerstone School Division.
"The administration of the school responded very quickly and took care of any immediate safety issues or concerns around student safety."
Students are off school for now, but could be back later in the week.
Engineers are conducting a safety assessment. The school was built in 1969.
