An employee at Casino Regina has been fired for allegedly stealing money.
The provincial government says $11,490 was taken from the Crown-owned casino between July 2007 and May 2008.
Several cash floats in the casino's bank were found to be short.
The police were notified and an employee was fired and charged with theft.
Since it was discovered that money was missing, procedures in the casino bank have been reviewed and controls have been strengthened, the government said. For example, daily random float counts have been implemented.
Information about the case was released by the government Tuesday as part of its mandatory quarterly reporting on cases involving public funds. The government didn't name the employee.
The case is not related to another incident at the casino earlier this year. In that case, a cash machine was giving out $20 bills instead of fives.
The casino lost $27,000 because of that mistake, with some patrons having repeatedly withdrawn money from the machine. The government later recovered more than $13,000.
