A nine-year-old Saskatoon girl is home from the hospital following an attack Tuesday night by two Rottweiler dogs.
The girl had been playing in Confederation Park when the attack occurred just before 8 p.m.
Janine Sakebow said she was approached by a friendly German shepherd just before it happened.
'I thought it was going to lick my hand but it bit my hand up here.'— Janine Sakebow, 9
"The German shepherd came and licked my hand. Those two Rottweilers came. One came running really fast," she said. "I thought it was going to lick my hand but it bit my hand up here. The owner told me not to panic. I calmed down for a little bit. They still started biting me."
The owners of the Rottweilers finally got the dogs off of Janine.
Frightened and bleeding, Janine headed home.
Her cousin Justice said he didn't realize how serious the attack was until she took off her jacket.
"I seen really deep cuts, her skin just showing and that's when I seen her skin actually ripped," he said.
Girl receives 15 stitches
Janine was taken to hospital where she received 15 stitches. The family said she was bitten on the hands, arms, shoulder and armpit.
Janine's mother Arlene Sakebow wants the owners charged and the dogs put down.
James Wilkie, a spokesman for the city's animal services program, said the attack is being investigated by police and animal control officers.
"The dogs are with the owners right now," he said. "Until we get enough evidence to proceed with either a seizure or different course of action, the dog will stay with the owner."
Arlene Sakebow said Janine will not be returning to school for the rest of the school year.
The attack has left her too traumatized, she said.
