A large grass fire threatened a subdivision south of Saskatoon Tuesday, providing some tense moments for residents.
The blaze came perilously close to more than a dozen homes in Riverside Estates, a rural subdivision about 10 kilometres south of the city.
Fire department officials said when they arrived, several homeowners were trying to battle the fire.
Crews from four fire halls, including pumper trucks, 4x4 bush trucks, and a tanker truck were dispatched to the neighbourhood. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze without any damage to the properties and without any injuries.
It appears the fire was started accidentally, officials said.
Meanwhile, Saskatoon firefighters were also called to a second big grassfire in the city Tuesday, near the Regional Psychiatric Centre just east of the river.
The fire was on both sides of Central Avenue and burned west down to the river's edge, but didn't threaten any buildings, fire officials said.
Crews were on the scene about four hours. No cause has been identified.
