A librarian accused of defrauding his employer of almost $1 million will plead guilty to the crime at his next court appearance in May, his lawyer said in court Wednesday.
Bruce Cameron, the former executive director of the Wheatland Regional Library, is accused of stealing the money by way of a scheme that began in the early 1990s in which books were paid for but never received.
He is scheduled to appear in court May 14.
Cameron is alleged to have ordered books from a fake company on behalf of the library and then pocketed the money himself. He was fired three years ago. Since then, about half the money has been recovered in a civil lawsuit.
The RCMP charged him with fraud last summer.
A judge has ordered a report into sentencing options that will examine whether Cameron is a suitable candidate for a sentence other than incarceration.
The Wheatland Regional Library has its headquarters in Saskatoon and provides services to dozens of surrounding rural communities.
