Crystal Anderson-Bonderud filed a $1-million lawsuit against the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and several doctors last week saying her husband's cancer wasn't properly diagnosed or treated.

Doug Bonderud died last year as a result of gastrointestinal cancer. He was 38.

Anderson-Bonderud had previously sought an inquest and has met with Health Minister Len Taylor. She wants to know why there were delays that she says forced them to travel to the U.S. for treatment.

Anderson-Bonderud told CBC News she promised her husband she would pursue the lawsuit.

"We just felt that we needed to get answers, that people needed to be accountable for mistakes that were made in Doug's case and it was really important to Doug that people hear his story."

Anderson-Bonderud said that the doctors in the United States told them the tumour should have been surgically removed much earlier. It had been treated in Canada with drugs.

Neither the cancer agency nor the doctors have responded to the lawsuit and none of the allegations has been proven in court.
