First Nations gambling agency rakes in record profits

More than ever last year, casinos were cash cows for the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority.
The First Nations gaming agency, which runs casinos in North Battleford, Prince Albert, Yorkton and on the White Bear First Nation, made a record profit of $48.8 million in the 2006-07 fiscal year. That's a 21 per cent increase from the year before.
The Dakota Dunes casino is expected to open Aug. 10.

Revenues went up $17 million to $130 million, according to figures SIGA released Wednesday.
SIGA officials also announced Wednesday that the Dakota Dunes casino will open ahead of schedule.
The $61-million casino, being built on Whitecap Dakota First Nation south of Saskatoon, was supposed to open its doors in September, but that date has been bumped forward to Aug. 10. It will be the largest of SIGA's casinos.
SIGA's next project is the Living Sky casino in Swift Current, which is expected to open in late 2008.
