Police in Prince Albert, Sask., have released video of a woman believed to have left her newborn baby in a Wal-Mart bathroom.

The baby boy was taken to hospital in Saskatoon Monday after being found in a toilet stall.

Police have been searching for the mother, who they believe left the store moments after abandoning the baby. Police hope that by making the Wal-Mart surveillance video public, someone will recognize the woman and contact them.

The tape shows a woman walking into the Prince Albert Wal-Mart on Monday afternoon.

The video is somewhat blurry and doesn't show the woman's face clearly. It's also not clear that she's pregnant — her stride as she enters the store doesn't appear hampered.

Still, according to Sgt. Rhonda Meakin of the Prince Albert police service, she's the person police are looking for.

"So far, no one has contacted the police or Crime Stoppers in regards to the identity of the mother," Meakin said. "We're hoping this video surveillance will allow someone to recognize her and come forward with some information."

If the woman in the video is the one who gave birth, she did so in an unusually short time — according to the video, she entered the store at 5:05 p.m. and left 14 minutes later.

The video shows the woman leaving the store without breaking stride. The baby remains in hospital.
