The annual convention of one of Saskatchewan's largest labour unions was shut down Friday by its own striking staff, represented by a different union.

The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union is in the middle of job action by its office workers.

CEP strikers were outside the SGEU office in Regina on Thursday. On Friday, job action moved to the SGEU's annual convention across town.

About a dozen strikers set up a picket line at the entrance to Ipsco Place, a Regina convention complex that was the site of SGEU's meeting.

Delegates were supposed to hold sessions and hear speeches.  But that didn't happen because SGEU members would not cross the picket line.

The office staff are members of the Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union.
CEP says their members have been trying to get a new collective agreement for a year and a half.

The two sides were talking Friday, a CEP spokesperson said. The picket lines at the conference came down Friday afternoon.
