Counselling was available for students and staff at a Regina school Thursday morning, a day after a stabbing outside Balfour Collegiate.
A teenage boy was in hospital recovering from two wounds, while another student was in police custody, charged with aggravated assault.
Grade 11 student Cloe Allard said a message came over the intercom just as classes were ending for the day Wednesday, asking staff to help break up a fight.
Before long, students were milling in the hallways and news broke out that the fight had resulted in a stabbing.
"One of the students was stabbed in the lower torso and in the underarm," said Terry Lazarou, a spokesperson for the Regina Public School Board. "That student was taken to hospital. The other student has been arrested."
Students were asked to leave the school through side entrances while yellow police tape cordoned off the school's front doors.
The injured student was listed in stable condition. Wednesday night classes were cancelled, but Lazarou said all classes have resumed while police continue to investigate.
He said the school will begin informing parents once officials have more details.
