The Saskatchewan government has reached a tentative deal with the province's 1,800 doctors.

The three-year contract would boost fees paid for doctor's services 2.8 per cent each year.

The dealĀ also includes about $12 million that will be used to improve patients' access to specialists, expand existing on-call programs and boost care for chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.

The government and the Saskatchewan Medical Association, which negotiated the contract on behalf of doctors, have also agreed on a plan to promote the use of electronic medical records.

The SMA is recommending that its members accept the deal.

Doctors are expected to be finished voting by Sept. 1.
