Water is on again at Regina's General Hospital after some wards went without running water during a planned maintenance job overnight.

Officials say the emergency room is one of the areas affected by the shutdown.

Maintenance was scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. CST Saturday, and continue throughout the night. Part of the maintenance included an update to water pressure valves.

Patients were given bottled drinking water and ice chips were also available.

Hospital staff were using antibacterial gels to keep their hands clean while the water was off, officials said. They also had wipes on hand if needed.

Most regular water service was restored to the entire hospital by 10:30 a.m. CST Sunday, though some areas still don't have water pressure.
