The headquarters of Saskatchewan Government Insurance will remain in its iconic downtown Regina building.

At least for the time being.

The cost to move the offices was higher than the government expected, Donna Harpauer, minister responsible for the Crown, said in a news release.

Engineers say the building, located on the corner of 11th Avenue and Lorne Street, is structurally safe and there are no plans for an extensive renovation of the building.

"I have been assured that SGI can continue to use the building without needing to undertake any major upgrades," Harpauer said.

The government requested proposals for a new SGI building in late 2012, with four companies being short-listed this past December.

SGI plans to revisit their decision in the next few years.
