Several Sask. communities without power following storm
About 4,000 residents are without power, expected to be Saturday tonight
Several Saskatchewan communities are without power Saturday following a significant storm on Friday night.
The province said about 4,000 residents had no electricity Saturday, however it expects the majority of those people will have their power restored Saturday night.
SaskPower tweeted crews are working to restore power in the following communities:
- Regina: Albert Street to McCarthy Boulevard
- Regina: Saskatchewan Drive to 6th Avenue N.
- White City
- Emerald Park
- Rouleau and surrounding areas
- Fort Qu'Appelle and surrounding areas
Biggar, Landis, Cando, Gravelbourg, Mossbank, and rural residents north of the Battlefords were without power on Friday night, but it has since been restored.
Doug Lapchuk, deputy chief of the Balgonie fire department, said the town just had their power restored at about 2 p.m. CST.
"It'll make a lot of people a lot more comfortable," Lapchuk said. "A lot less stressed about their perishables in their freezers.
"It will also take the stress off of our infrastructure support because it will be running on power rather than on generators we have to power our water and sewer systems."
Residents who experienced uninsurable damage as a result of the storm can contact the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) by calling 1-866-632-4033 or going to the PDAP website.
