A 70-year-old northern Saskatchewan man who allegedly threatened to shoot police officers has been charged after guns, ammo, bear spray, throwing knives, nunchucks and a samurai sword were seized.
Police said on Wednesday they stopped the man from the Southend area in a blue van about 180 kilometres south of La Ronge.
He had been wanted for uttering threats to shoot police, plus threatening to damage people's property.
While the van was searched, Highway 2 was blocked off for about 10 minutes. Police found the sword, nunchucks, bear spray and other items.
- The charges include:
- uttering threats against the police
- uttering threats to property
- unauthorized possession of a firearms (prohibited or restricted weapons)
- careless use of a firearm
The man appeared in La Ronge provincial court Thursday morning.
