The driver of a semi-trailer is dead following a crash with a CN train at a level crossing near Raymore, Sask.

It happened on Highway 6 Thursday at around 11:15 a.m. CST.

Witnesses at the nearby Co-op store said the area was blanketed in heavy fog when it happened.

"It was a complete whiteout," said Rick Billett, the general manager of Last Mountain Co-op. "We were up in the office and we heard the crash. It was 100 per cent fog when we looked out."

Around noon, the train was still blocking the crossing. RCMP said it would take several hours for the site to be cleared of debris and fully examined by investigators, including an accident reconstruction specialist. Traffic would be diverted likely until early Thursday evening.

The driver who died has been identified by RCMP as a 52-year-old man who is not from Saskatchewan. They said officers were working to complete the notification of the man's family.
