The search for a mystery caller to 911 in northern Saskatchewan has been called off, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band says.

Calls to the RCMP to confirm the status of the search were not immediately returned.

However, CBC News was informed late Wednesday by the band office that no more searching would take place.

According to the RCMP, a man called 911 on April 23 around 2:30 a.m. local time to report that he was lost and being chased by someone.

The man said his name was George James.

Police said the call was dropped but co-ordinates from a cellphone tower determined the caller was in the La Ronge detachment area.

Officers were sent out on foot right away to look around the community. As well, a local search was launched.

CBC News was also told Wednesday that the name was unfamiliar to people in the community. The local phone directory does not list anyone with the surname James.

La Ronge is about 380 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
