Saskatchewan unveils new film industry subsidy
The Saskatchewan government is offering the film industry a new program to replace the tax credit it killed in the budget.
The government says the new program will provide a 25 per cent tax credit on production costs.
That credit would be deducted from taxes paid in Saskatchewan.
The government says under the old program, even companies which paid no Saskatchewan tax were eligible for the credit.
The new program is expected to cost the province about $1 million per year, although the amount could change depending on how many companies use the program.
In March, the province announced the old program would be eliminated to save $8 million a year.
The cut sparked a series of petitions and protests from people in the industry who predicted it would kill off production in the province.
