Saskatchewan to have 2nd free fishing weekend this summer

Saskatchewan will have another free fishing weekend — its second summer one in 2014 — later this month.

No licence required on Aug. 23-24

Saskatchewan will have another free fishing weekend — for the second time in 2014 — later this month.

The provincial government said Wednesday that people will be able to fish without a licence on Aug. 23 and 24.

Usually, there's just one free fishing weekend per summer.

However, many people in southeastern Saskatchewan were dealing with heavy rain and flooding before this year's scheduled free weekend on July 12 and 13.

Boaters in some of those areas were being advised to stay off the lakes.

The weekend went ahead anyway, but when NDP leader Cam Broten suggested a second one would be a good idea, Premier Brad Wall agreed.

National parks aren't included. Also, anyone planning to take fish out of the province must purchase a licence.

All other fishing regulations apply, including possession limits.
