All those Liams and Emmas helped create a big baby boom in Saskatchewan last year — the biggest in 22 years.

According to the provincial government, 15,035 live births were registered in 2012, compared to 14,577 the year before.

The province also compiles lists of the most popular baby names and for the third year in a row, Liam took the top spot  — 108 babies were given that name.

In fact, over the past decade, 616 babies have been named Liam — enough to fill a Sturgis-sized town.

Runners up in the boy category in 2012 included longtime favourite Ethan (75) and Carter (72).

For the fourth year running, Emma was the top girl's name. There were 75 Emmas born in 2012, with Olivia (71) and Ava (67) coming in second and third.

Owen (55) became more popular again and hit #10 after being absent from the top 20 list in 2011.

Possibly in connection with the Queen's diamond jubillee, there were 43 Elizabeths, putting it in the 12th spot after dropping off the list last year.
