Sask. Wheat Pool subsidiary buys oat mill
Although it's not happening in Saskatchewan and it's not wheat, a company owned by the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool is expanding.
On Thursday, the grain company said its Can-Oat Milling subsidiary had purchased the ConAgra oat milling plant at Barrhead, Alta.
The plant processes 25,000 tonnes of oat products annually. That includes oat flakes, oat flour and oat bran. It also processes barley.
Can-Oat also owns a mills at Portage la Prairie, Man. and Martensville, Sask. With this acquisition and expansion of its Portage la Prairie plant, Can-Oat's total milling capacity will top 375,000 tonnes annually, the company said.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
