Ryan Bater has resigned as leader of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party.

Bater said Tuesday he has submitted his letter of resignation after almost three years at the helm of the party.

Bater ran in the 2011 election in The Battlefords constituency, but he was not able to win.

The Liberals have no seats in the legislative assembly.

In a statement, Bater said the personal and professional sacrifices of being the party leader were becoming too great.
