There was much cheering in Saskatchewan sports bars and living rooms Sunday night as the Seattle Seahawks won their first Super Bowl last night.
Regina's Jon Ryan was punting for the Seahawks as the team steamrolled its way to a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos.
Ryan, who played for the Regina Rams and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before making the jump to the Green Bay Packers in the NFL, is the first Saskatchewan man ever to earn a Super Bowl ring.
In the week leading up to the big game, Seahawks jerseys were hot sellers in Regina sports stores.
The Tap restaurant and bar in Regina was a sea of blue and green on Sunday night.
"This is like a dream come true," said Rick Kezama, a good friend of Ryan.
"My buddy's playing in the Super Bowl...I've been vibrating since like 9 a.m. this morning. It's off the charts."
It turned out the Seahawks dominated the game so totally, that the punting team was barely used.
Ryan, 32, finished the game with a single punt for 45 yards.
