Regina woman accused of defrauding frail senior
A 37-year-old Regina woman is facing allegations she defrauded a frail senior out of $112 thousand in cash and property.
Regina police claim the accused befriended the 89-year-old woman and took advantage of the elderly woman's confused state of mind.
According to police, the pair met while the older woman was in hospital in May of 2013. The suspect was later hired as the victim’s caregiver for a four month period, up until the victim died (of natural causes).
In those months, however, police allege the caregiver was taking property and cash from the older woman's home.
Police said they received a report of a theft in October and their investigation led to the younger woman's arrest on Tuesday.
She is set to make an appearance in court, in Regina, on charges of theft and fraud, on April 15.
