Regina police have charged one of their own with stealing and using a gift card that had been seized as evidence in an earlier case.
Const. Darryl Blampied was arrested Thursday and is set to appear in court next month.
The $1,000 Home Depot gift card had been seized in a fraud investigation three years ago.
Gift card used in June
After someone used the card at a store last month, an investigation was launched and it led to Blampied, police allege.
Police said $500 had been spent.
The 11-year veteran of the force has been suspended from duty with pay, but police chief Troy Hagen said he is working toward having Blampied dismissed before his charge is resolved.
Officer already on probation
It's not the first time Blampied has been charged with a crime.
Last year, he pleaded guilty to drunk driving.
He was suspended from driving for a year and had to pay a fine. The police service also placed him on two years probation.
