Regina man at centre of standoff charged with drug store robberies
Police say the Regina man who was at the centre of a lengthy standoff Wednesday morning is a suspect in two drug store robberies earlier this month.
Officers were on the scene for six hours outside a home in the 4600 block of McTavish St. before the man, 45, gave himself up around 8:30 a.m. CST.
He now faces six charges including two counts of armed robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, careless use of a firearm and possession of a prohibited weapon – a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun.
The charges stem from robberies at one drug store on the 3800 block of Albert St. on Jan. 6 and another drug store on the 4600 block of Rae St. on Jan 8.
In both cases, a masked man entered the store and demanded drugs while holding a gun.
The man is scheduled to appear in provincial court Thursday.
