The City of Regina is sending a delegation to Ireland in a bid to recruit new automotive mechanics and engineers.
The city hopes to find specialists who can work on its fleet of buses.
They have two immediate vacancies to fill and expect that more mechanics will be needed in the future.
"There's lots of work for them and they move around a lot," the city's Pat Gartner told CBC News. "They're hard to attract and hard to keep frankly."
Gartner said the city will continue to look for mechanics in Saskatchewan and Canada, noting the Ireland trip was a unique opportunity.
The trip to Ireland will cost $30,000.
