Regina jail inmate escapes while working outside facility

An inmate at the Regina jail took off Monday afternoon while working outside the facility and is unlawfully at large, authorities say.

An inmate at the Regina jail took off Monday afternoon while working outside the facility and is unlawfully at large, authorities say.

According to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice, Shaun William Wilton, 30, was noted as an escapee around 2:30 p.m. CST.

"Wilton was outside the perimeter fence at the Regina Correctional Centre at the time of the escape," Linsay Rabyj, a spokeswoman for the ministry, told CBC News Monday. "It is not unusual for low-risk offenders to be working outside of that perimeter fence."

Officials said the escapee was serving a one year sentence for possession of firearms, failure to comply and possession of stolen property.

He is 5' 8" and weighs 154 pounds.

He also has a number of tattoos, including:

  • The word "WILTON" on left lower arm.

  • A SPIDER WEB, FEATHER and the word "WILTON" on right lower arm.

  • A ROSE on right lower leg.

  • A CROSS and FEATHERS on middle upper back.
