An RCMP vehicle that was carrying an injured motorist to meet an ambulance has rolled, sending the officer as well as the already injured passenger to hospital.

According to a new release, the roll over crash took place on Highway 11, northwest of Regina near the community of Bethune.

RCMP said the officer had just been at the scene of a different highway crash, further along the road, near Findlater, Sask.

"The RCMP member planned to meet a northbound ambulance at the Highway 54 intersection (Regina Beach turnoff) to expedite medical treatment for the adult female passenger," RCMP explained.

They said the injured woman was on her way, by ambulance, to hospital in Regina, while the RCMP member was being taken to hospital in another RCMP vehicle, by another officer.

There were no specific details about the nature of injuries.
