RCMP on Thursday recovered the body of a Regina teen who drowned while swimming with friends at Last Mountain Lake near Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park.

Weather conditions are believed to have been a factor in the death of Taylor Smerchynski, 18, of Regina. At the time, there were high winds and whitecaps.

The teen was swimming with friends but only two of the three swimmers returned to shore at Collingwood Estates about eight kilometres north of the provincial park.

RCMP dive teams, aided by an underwater camera, searched on Wednesday for the missing teen and his body was recovered by boat around 9 a.m. Thursday.

The Smerchynski family released a statement Thursday thanking the RCMP for their recovery effort and thanking the community of Collingwood Estates for their hospitality and comfort.

Rowan's Ravine is about 80 kilometres northwest of Regina.
