An RCMP cruiser parked beside the highway while an off-duty officer was providing assistance at a crash was struck by a passing semi, pushing the cruiser into the ditch and hitting the officer, who was not injured.

The incident happened Friday around 6 p.m., on Highway 1 just outside of Percival, Sask., east of Regina, RCMP said in a news release.

The off-duty officer was checking out a pick-up truck that had hit the ditch. No one was hurt in that crash.

The officer's cruiser, which was an unmarked vehicle, was struck with enough force to push it into the same ditch and that's when the officer was struck.

As a precaution, the officer was taken to hospital for examination and released.

Members from the Broadview detachment of were dispatched to investigate. They are also looking for the semi.

Traffic on the highway was not affected.
