Pubs a booming business in Regina
At least three new pubs are opening in the downtown area this summer
For years, O'Hanlon's Irish Pub in Regina held a virtual monopoly on the downtown pub market. Now, pubs are becoming a booming business in Regina.
At least three new pubs are opening in the downtown area this summer.
Greg Hooker, co-owner of Victoria's Tavern, is set to open up his new business downtown on Hamilton Street.
"I think the downtown, it's always had its few places, the staples of the community," Hooker said. "We just thought there was a definite opportunity to have something kind of mid-range."
One new pub is opening today as part of the Cathedral Village Arts Festival. It's called Shannon's and is an authentic Irish pub right off 13th Avenue in the old Table 10 building.
Aaron Murray opened a pop-up pub in the city during Grey Cup weekend. He said they bring a comfortable night life option.
"It's not necessarily a place where you get dolled up and go," Murray said. "It's just sort of a place where you can go after work and if you feel like going back at night or staying right through, that works as well."
