Provincial health officials are keeping a close watch on an expected boom in mosquito numbers, because of the link to West Nile Virus.

So far, testing has not found mosquitoes carrying the virus, which can be very dangerous to people especially those with weakened immune systems.

Recent rain and heat has experts expecting lots of mosquitoes.

"These conditions are optimal," Phil Curry, Saskatchewan West Nile Virus coordinator, said Thursday. "The risk is now low but it will most likely increase to moderate or even higher level as we get more into the summer."

The province has also launched an easy-to-follow online site to provide information about West Nile Virus risk.
