Two people were arrested and four to five pounds of marijuana were seized Friday following a search of a home in Preeceville, Sask., RCMP said.

"We have prevented illegal drugs from reaching the young people of our community," Sgt. Terry Wilson, from the Canora and Sturgis detachment of the RCMP, said in a news release late Friday.

Wilson said the search took place Friday afternoon and led to the arrests of a man and a woman, both adults.

They were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a controlled substance.

Police did not release their names, saying that the investigation was continuing.

The search involved officers from two RCMP detachments and the services of a police dog from Yorkton.

In addition to the marijuana, police said they seized an undisclosed amount of cash.

Preeceville is a community of 1,000 about 300 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
