The number of surgeries and medical procedures that are being postponed continues to climb as the Pasqua Hospital enters the second day of a 10-day long hold related to issues around equipment sterilization.

As of Thursday morning, officials said 38 surgeries and 22 medical procedures, which rely on items from the sterile processing area, were added to the postponed summary. That brings the total to 76 postponements.

Any emergency surgeries would be done at Regina's other hospital, the General.

Officials said the issue with the sterilization of equipment at the Pasqua was still under investigation.

The Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region cancelled surgeries at the Pasqua Hospital for 10 days, beginning Wednesday.

The region said quality control tests determined they couldn't be sure the equipment needed for surgeries could be properly sterilized.

The health region has been contacting affected patients.
