Regina police have charged a 20-year-old man in connection with a shooting on the street that sent one man to hospital Friday and are investigating whether it's gang-related.

The man has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm while prohibited, and officials say more charges are expected to be laid.

The shooting happened Friday near the corner of 4th Avenue and Athol Street at 8 p.m. CST.

Police said a man, 19, was walking along the sidewalk when a car went by and then stopped.

It's alleged a man got out of the vehicle with a shotgun, walked over to the 19-year-old and shot him.

Paramedics took the man to hospital where his condition improved from serious to stable over the weekend.

Police said Sunday that the victim is not completely co-operating with officers. They began asking questions once the man's health improved.

The man who was charged on Saturday made his first appearance in provincial court on Monday morning.

Police said they had also seized a weapon believed to have been used in the shooting.
