Park(ing) Day draws creative users in Saskatoon
Parts of Saskatoon's Broadway district, the University of Saskatchewan, and 20th Street are getting a brief, creative make-over as part of an event called Park(ing) Day.
Participants have converted metered parking spots into miniature parks, eateries, yoga studios, and living rooms.
"There's so many people setting up their parking spots, and it's so exciting," Rahatjan Judge, who was on hand at one of the new spaces Friday morning, told CBC News. "It's kind of a celebrating of the good weather I guess too."
To make room for the event, traffic along 20th Street and Broadway is down to one lane in each direction.
Organizers of the event say it's about sharing public streets with cars, not getting rid of vehicles entirely.
