Panhandler was only trying to help child, P.A. police say
Prince Albert police say what initially looked like an attempted child abduction on the weekend may instead have been a Good Samaritan case.
Police were called after an incident Saturday afternoon near the South Hill Mall.
After speaking with the boy, police identified two men as suspects.
Police now say the criminal investigation is over. It turns out a panhandler near the mall did grab the boy, but there is no evidence to show he was trying to snatch him from his mother.
Police say surveillance video showed the child had run ahead and was sliding on the icy road.
The man says he grabbed the boy to stop him from running into traffic.
